I had a thrombosed external hemorroid excised/drained in Feb. 2007. I was pregnant at the time and had my baby at end of February. The hemorroid is no longer thrombosed but is still there. I was wondering if anyone out there has had the surgery to remove this? Apparently surgery is one of the few options left to remove an external hemorroid that has persisted after home treatments. Any advice and perspective on this would be appreciated. Thank you!

If the hemorrhoid isn’t causing you any problems, like swelling etc. Why worry about it? It may just be more like tag now.
I have had extensive hemorrhoidectomy. If this is the only one you have, it’s totally on the exterior and you want it removed it probably is not going to be a big production. Within two weeks you should be just fine. The pain level for just this one most likely will be minimal. The doctor would give you pain meds to handle the pain and while it is weird you can also use an ice pack to help reduce any additional pain or swelling.
Now if you have more than just the one and you have internal hemorrhoids, expect the pain level to be higher. And possible swelling can be uncomfortable as hell. And you will really want that ice!
In my case I developed a polyp during healing that later needed to be removed. It was an outpatient "repair" but the doctor doing it got a bit too much tissue (as I said my surgery was extensive and there was not a lot of tissue left) and I eventually started having a weak spot between the rectum and and vagina. This is manageable but sort of weird too.

It’s been 25+ years since my hemorrhoidectomy, so methods/healing times may be different now – but it took me about a week to a week and a half. However, my hemorrhoids were also both external and internal – and bleeding, only had thrombosed hemorrhoid once (thank goodness, very uncomfortable!).
